WGM comprises three main competition categories: GM, R4M, and GM Jr. If this is your first time organizing the event, we recommend starting with simpler options—such as the GM Basic Level, R4M Basic Level, or GM Jr.—to help participating teams build confidence.

The recommended kits are primarily based on the specific competition category rather than age. For instance, for schools interested in entering the R4M competition, we recommend purchasing programming-related kits. For the recommended kits for each category. According to regulations, we hold the WGM in August. We recommend that each country complete its National Competition two months prior (May to June) to select national representatives. Regional competitions should be completed two months before the National Competition (March to April). However, if a region has too few teams to hold a regional competition, holding a single National Competition to select the representatives is also acceptable.
